Round Up of Apple’s 2019 Announcements

As with every September, Apple conducted their annual conference today which launched the next generation of their products.

We’ve been closely following these announcements, and yesterday published our Apple iOS 13 blog. We already uncovered the implications iOS/iPadOS 13 will have on app developers and testers when it launches on September 20.

To help summarize all the announcements, we’ve divided this blog into the main categories that were covered in today’s event. Bottom line: no ground-breaking news to the Apple community other than enhancements to the existing products.

Apple TV Plus

Apple TV Plus is the new streaming service offering subscription-based content to Apple’s clients. This will become available November 1, and comes free for one year with the purchase of a new model of an iPhone or iPad. Learn more on the service straight from the source.

Apple Watch 5th Generation

Apple continues its investment in the Apple Watch and is launching a new generation of the product with a new WatchOS version. There is only one major enhancement to the watch regarding the Always On display. The additional changes are primarily related to its design.

Apple iPad 10.2’’

Apple today announced their new iPad generation featuring a new screen size of 10.2’’.

The new iPad comes at a lower price of $329 and will replace the legendary 9.7’’ older design. The new iPad will of course run on the new iPadOS 13. It will also have advanced screen features, multitasking, a new Safari browser, stronger performance, and better battery. The iPad can be pre-ordered today and will be available by 9/30.

New iPhones

Finally, Apple introduced the three new iPhones: iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max.

AI and ML features are now embedded into the phones. The main innovation, however, is in the camera. Each phone now includes three separate cameras named Telephoto, Wide, and Ultra-Wide. These smartphones can be pre-ordered on 9/13 and will be available on 9/20.

Bottom Line

This year Apple made enhancements to its existing line of products, but really did not launch any new and groundbreaking technology.

This is especially true when compared to the Android landscape, which featured the recent launch of the Android 10. Additionally, foldable smartphones from Samsung, Huawei, and LG have a market advantage from an innovation standpoint.
